Comment: A panoramic view taken from the hills south of Gap, looking north.
roubion panorama * This small village is literally built into the cliffs and appears to be hanging on the edge. The village is just east of Valberg, off the D30, south of the La Bonette pass in southern France. * 720 x 211 * (60KB)

jim verna col de la cayolle * Verna and Jim at the Col de la Cayolle. The pass is at 2326 meters (7631 feet). * 432 x 323 * (60KB)

jim col de la cayolle * Jim and bikes with a view to the north from the Col de la Cayolle. The pass is at 2326 meters (7631 feet). We were wondering if the tall poles were for the snow-removal process. The poles are wedged into formed holes, allowing for easy replacement. * 432 x 323 * (62KB)

col de la bonette with bikes * The bikes in front of the sign for the Col de la Bonette. The pass is the highest in Europe at 2802 meters (9193 feet). It truly feels like you are at the top of world up here. Climb to the top of the mount for a 360 degree view. * 432 x 323 * (52KB)

col de la bonette sign * This sign gives the history of this route, beginning with Napoleon in 1860 as he travelled north from Nice to Briancon, later used by the military for national defence, and finally the last portion to the very top completed in 1961. Jim and his bike appear in the reflection. * 323 x 432 * (62KB)
